Meryl Streep joining season 2 of “Big Little Lies”

Just as fans thought, Big Little Lies couldn’t get better. Hollywood icon Meryl Streep will be joining the series’ cast!

HBO’s acclaimed series is getting some more star power as Streep will be making a rare TV appearance. Her previous major TV role was well over a decade ago, on Angels in America (2003).

The Oscar-winner will join season two as Mary Louise Wright, mother of abusive Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) who played Nicole Kidman’s onscreen husband. Following her son’s death, Mary arrives as Monterey, concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren.

Season 2 will see Celeste Wright (Kidman) “reeling from her husband Perry’s death, [she] is adrift, but determined to fight for her family and find the woman she once was.” While Reese Witherspoon’s Madeline Martha Mackenzie is “finding that good intentions don’t always yield good consequences, Madeline confronts the truth of Perry’s death, while coming to terms with her own marriage and traditional notions of family.”

With David E. Kelly serving as showrunner, the project was originally billed as a limited series, but its major success prompted HBO to make go for another round, making new deals with the show’s producers and cast.

Big Little Lies season 2 is expected to air in 2019.
