Michael Fassbender in Talks to Star in “Next Goal Wins”

Michael Fassbender is in talks to join Taika Waititi forthcoming soccer movie.

Multiple outlets confirm that the two time Oscar nominee is in the finals stages of negotiations to star in the sports drama that centers on the national football team of American Samoa.

Next Goal Wins is based on a 2014 British documentary of the same name, about the national soccer team of American Samoa. According to Variety, Waititi’s film will follow the true story of Dutch coach Thomas Rongen (Fassbender) who attempts to turn the underdog team’s fortunes around in time to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, after years of losses.

Fassbender’s casting is the only one to be announced. It is known that casting calls have gone out for actors to play the team members.

The Kiwi filmmaker will helm  Next Goal Wins before taking on Marvel’s 4th Thor film, Love & Thunder.
