Diana Ross is finally getting the biopic her fans have been patiently waiting for, and she’ll be portrayed by another extraordinary artist. Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams will be in charge of portraying this soul icon in the upcoming series American Soul.
This promising project will premiere on BET, but it won’t be a direct biopic. Instead of focusing solely on Ross, this 10-episode drama will tell the story of dancers, crew, and musicians trying to make it in ‘70s Hollywood.
Don Cornelius, who launched and hosted this music show, will be the central character of American Soul. He’ll be portrayed by Sinqua Walls, known for his work on Power and Once Upon a Time. Michelle Williams won’t be the only person portraying a legendary soul artist on this show. Gabrielle Dennis and McKinley Freeman were cast as Tina and Ike Turner.
To make the whole thing more exciting, Williams will team up with Kelly Rowland on set. If they could only get Beyoncé on board, it would be an epic Destiny’s Child reunion!
