Michelle Yeoh Joins the “Avatar” Sequels

Avatar sequels lands Michelle Yeoh.

The casting announcement was made via the franchise’s official social media channels. The news also revealed that Yeoh is set to play scientist Dr. Karina Mogue. it is unknown in which of the sequels she’ll appear in or in how many.

“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels,” Cameron said in a statement. 

The Crazy Rich Asians and Star Trek: Discovery star joins returning Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver. She also joins newcomers to the Avatar family, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Oona Chaplin.

The original 2009 film still holds the title of highest grossing film of all time, with $2.7 billion in the global box office. The first sequel is slated for December 2020. Filming officially started on the first two sequels in September 2017.
