Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Split

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits.

The announcement comes after less than a year of marriage.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a rep for Cyrus tells PEOPLE in a statement. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

The two have always had a tumultuous relationship. They met in 2009 on the set of the romantic drama The Last Song. Hemsworth proposed in 2012 but they ended their engagement and broke up a year later. The couple then reconciled in 2015 and were married on December 2018 in an intimate ceremony at their home in Franklin, Tennessee.

The couple never really talked of getting married, but sources close to them confirmed at the time that the decision totally makes sense for the couple.

“They don’t have doubts about their relationship,” a Cyrus source told the outlet. “They both wanted to get married. They have both matured a lot, and it seemed like the perfect time for them to get married.”
