Get ready to see more of Mindy Kaling, that is a young Mindy.
Netflix and Kaling have teamed up to bring fans a semi-autobiographical comedy inspired by the life of the 39-year-old actress. In other words, get ready to follow the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl.
The steaming giant has put in a 10-episode order of the coming-of-age comedy series o-created, co-written and executive produced by Kaling and The Mindy Project co-exec producer Lang Fisher. Kaling and Fisher will also serve as showrunners.
Kaling told the outlet, “Netflix approached me about doing a series on young Mindy. I wasn’t as interested in telling a period piece about an Indian girl growing up in the ’80s, but I told them I’d love to do a show about a 15 year old Indian girl now.”
The star and creator of The Mindy Project has just finished production on a mini-series adaptation of the popular film Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu.
