Berlin did a great job expanding the Money Heist franchise, and Netflix isn’t letting go of it anytime soon. Pedro Alonso’s titular criminal mastermind will be back for another epic heist after the streamer confirmed they’re renewing this series for its second season.

Berlin catches up with Alonso’s Andrés de Fonollosa aka Berlin years before the original series, and it sees him trying to steal €44 million worth of jewelry, all in one glorious afternoon, with another group of colorful characters.

In addition to Alonso in the lead role, Berlin also stars Julio Peña as a skilled locksmith Roi, Begoña Vargas as the loose cannon Cameron, Michelle Jenner as the security mastermind Keila, Tristán Ulloa as a philanthropic professor Damián, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce, a relentless man of action.

Renewing Berlin was a no-brainer for Netflix, given its strong viewership numbers. This spin-off series reached the top 10 in 91 countries during its premiere week and went on to receive 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views, remaining in the top 10 for seven consecutive weeks on Netflix’s non-English TV list.

Berlin was developed as a prequel to Money Heist, the hit Spanish series which ran between 2017 and 2021 and won an International Emmy Award for the best drama series.
