NBC developing “Bad Boys” TV spin-off starring Gabrielle Union

The network has issued a pilot production commitment to a Bad Boys film franchise TV spin-off.

The first Bad Boys movie was released in 1995 followed by another in 2003. EW confirms that the spin-off will center on a character from the 2003 film, played Gabrielle Union. Union won’t be the only one to stick with the small-screen rendering of the franchise and will be joined by Jerry Bruckheimer, who served as producer of the two films. Also part of the production are The Blacklist alums Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.

The series will follow Union, who played sister to Marcus (Martin Lawrence) and love interest to Mike (Will Smith), to Los Angeles where the former DEA agent will be working as an LAPD detective where her partner learns that she might be hiding a dark secret.

This TV addition to the Bad Boys world comes at a time when the future of the third film of the franchise is uncertain as Bad Boys for Life has recently lost its release date.
