NBC Orders Medical Drama Pilot Set at Bellevue Hospital

NBC is moving forward with its third drama order of the season.

The still untitled media drama is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir, Twelve Patients: Life & Death at Bellevue Hospital. Produced by Dr. Manheimer himself, author and former medical director at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital, the project was originally bought of the network in September.

The hourlong episodes were penned by David Schulner and will follow a maverick new director at the institution, renowned for being the only hospital in the world to treat Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the President of the United States.

Set to direct and executive produce is Peter Horton, who has his fair share of successful medical dramas, being the one who helmed the pilot of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

This series will join NBC’s already on air medical drama series, Chicago Med.
