Variety confirms that Michelle Monaghan has been cast in a lead hole in Netflix’s series Messiah.
Monaghan has been cast as Eva Geller, a highly skilled US intelligence officer who uses all her knowledge and years of experience against the elusive Al-Masih, played by Mehdi Dehbi. Al-Masih claims to have been sent by God, earning a swarm of followers. Described as whip smart, tenacious and determined, Eva goes to the ends of the earth to prosecute this figure while trying to keep to her own moral convictions.
The series is told from various characters’ viewpoints, including a US Intelligence agent, a Palestinian refugee, an Israeli Shin Bet officer, and a Latino preacher and his daughter.
Messiah was ordered to series by the streaming giant in November. It was created by Michael Petroni who will also serve as executive producer alongside Roma Downey, Andrew Deane, and James McTeigue. McTeigue is also set to direct.
Monaghan’s TV credits include The Path, True Detective and Boston Public.
