Netflix has successfully gained a foothold establishing itself as THE platform for TV entertainment.
The mega streaming service is the no. 1 choice of platform for watching entertainment on TV, Variety reports. That means that the streaming service has officially surpasses in popularity traditional cable television networks as well as YouTube, Amazon and Hulu.
The recent survey, conducted by Cowen & Co., asked 2,500 US adults “Which platforms do you use most often to view video content on TV?” Netflix earned the coveted no. 1 spot with 27 percent of the vote followed by cable (20 percent), broadcast (18 percent) and YouTube (11 percent).
Among the millennials, however, the numbers are even more impressive as nearly 40 percent of viewers in the younger demo opt for the streaming platform well ahead of YouTube (17 percent), basic cable (12.6 percent), Hulu (7.6 percent) and broadcast TV (7.5 percent).
“Over the long term, assuming [Netflix] is able to continue to increasingly offer great content, this lead clearly bodes well for further value creation,” Cowen & Co. analysts led by John Blackledge wrote in a research note Tuesday.
Looks like Netflix has officially become the most powerful entertainment player in the world.
