Netflix Orders Dolly Parton Anthology Series

The iconic country singer is heading to Netflix with a new eight-episode anthology series.

After rumors circled about a possible new Dolly Parton project, following Lily Tomlin’s comment during a Grace & Frankie Netflix panel that Parton might be too busy with her own project to make an appearance on season five of the show, the streaming giant announced Monday that a new series is coming and will be based on Parton’s music; she will also serve as singer-songwriter as well as executive producer of the show.

In her statement, Parton said, “As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music. I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”

This won’t be the first time Parton’s song came to life. The singer signed a deal with NBC of TV movies based on her songs and her life. Coat of Many Colors premiered in 2015 and had 13 million viewers.

A premiere date has not been announced.
