Maestro is one of the Oscar hopefuls premiering at the Venice Film Festival next month, and Netflix finally gave us a first glimpse of things to come. Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan star as composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre in this highly-anticipated biopic which chronicles their time together.
Described as a towering and fearless love story and an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love, Maestro follows the iconic West Side Story composer Leonard Bernstein. His marriage with actress Felicia Montealegre is the central point of this film, but he notably had many affairs during their time together.
In addition to leading the film alongside Mulligan, Cooper was also in charge of directing it and co-writing the script with the Oscar-winner Josh Singer. He also serves as one of the producers, alongside Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
When it comes to the cast, the ensemble of Maestro also includes Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor.
Maestro will see the light of day at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 2, before heading to selected theatres on November 22 and becoming available on Netflix on December 20.
