“New Amsterdam” Renewed for Season 2

New Amsterdam is NBC’s first freshman show to secure a spot on the 2019-20 schedule.

The medical drama has received a second season order from the network. News of the renewal were confirmed by NBC Monday.

“We’ve been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make New Amsterdam such an incredibly compelling medical series,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. “Congratulations to David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life.”

The series stars Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, who is given the challenge of running one of the oldest public hospitals in New York. New Amsterdam is inspires by the career of Dr. Eric Manheimer and his memoir Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital.

The series also stars Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine.
