The new cast of Charmed has some advice for its predecessors.
In January, The CW announced that it would be rebooting the magical series about 3 sisters who discover that they are the most powerful witches of their time.
With the series having concluded its 8 seasons run in 2006, and the original Halliwells still fresh in everyone’s hearts and minds, the news of the show being done over with a new cast and characters hasn’t been well-received by all.
Those, in particular, include Holly Marie Combs who played time-freezing Piper Halliwell:
“Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye,” she wrote on Twitter.
She also stated, “I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago.”
But new cast members, Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffrey, and Madeleine Mantock have expressed excitement and optimism over their new venture.
“We understand that it’s such a sacred thing to so many people; not only the cast but the fans,” said Sarah; while Madeleine referred to Holly saying, “She would see it and like it.”
We wouldn’t bet the Book of Shadows on it…
Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.
