New Comedy From Reese Witherspoon in the Works at ABC

Reese Witherspoon and ABC are teaming up. The Big Little Lies star is producing a new comedy for the network. The series, titled Americanized, is based on Saa Saedi’s memoir of the same name.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series tells the story of a loving and off-beat Iranian family, with a very big secret: they’re undocumented immigrants. According to the outlet, the half-hour comedy will serve as a window into the life of a Middle-Eastern household while exploring the universal truths that bond every type of “American” family.

Witherspoon will serve as executive produces on the single-camera series alongside Saedi who will pen the script and serve as exec producer for ABC Studios. Also producing for Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine is Lauren Levy Neustadter.

This is the latest project for Witherspoons’ production company, Hello Sunshine, which has three straight-to-series projects in the works at Apple, Little Fires Everywhere for Hulu and Big Little Lies for HBO.
