Nicki Minaj’s new album features several amazing songs, but Barbie Dreams is one that people still can’t stop talking about. That’s not going to change anytime soon since the singer just gave it a music video treatment.
Barbie Dreams made some noise as soon as her fourth studio album Queen dropped because she used it to name and shame a hefty number of rappers. Nicki Minaj tried to clear the air by saying the song gave her a chance to mess around with her pals, who know how to take a joke, and said it’s not a diss track.
Barbie Dreams lyrics feature a bunch of comic digs, and Minaj tried to incorporate some of them in the video, as well. She accomplished this task by using hilarious puppets to recreate several rappers mentioned in her song, including Lil Wayne and DJ Khalid.
Director Hype Williams came up with this idea. The duo was thinking about including way more puppets than they did but came to the conclusion it would be too much. The rest of the tongue-in-cheek video shows Minaj dancing in a variety of different outfits and hair colors, including rainbow, bright green, and yellow.
