How Nicole Kidman Dealt with her Intense “Big Little Lies” Scenes

It wasn’t easy for Nicole Kidman to step back into her family life after shooting tough scenes on the set of Big Little Lies.

The Oscar winning actress spoke with ET at HBO’s Big Little Lies FYC event in Los Angeles about the difficulties of shooting some of the scenes with her on-screen husband Alexander Skarsgård. Kidman said that at times filming was very emotionally draining, and that these challenging interactions actually took their toll on the actress. Moving back from shooting a relationship that depicts a perfect relationship on the outside, but in fact is horribly abusive behind closed doors, proved as a challenge even after filming was done.

Kidman said that she was very fortunate to be able to come home and find comfort and support in the arms of her husband Keith Urban. She spoke of how accommodating Urban was to her emotional distress that resulted from shooting difficult situations for such a long duration.

Kidman and co-stars could not be more excited as earlier this month, Emmy nominations were announced and both she and Reese Witherspoon were nominated for Outstanding Lead actress. The show also received a nomination for Outstanding Limited Series.

During her interview, Kidman said that the powerful female cast including Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern were over to moon when they learned of the shared nomination and added that they loved the experience of working together and look forward to exploring opportunities to so again in the future.
