NY Yankees Congratulate Derek Jeter and Wife Hannah On The Birth of Their Baby Girl

Derek Jeter and wife Hannah welcomed their daughter, Bella Raine, the New York Yankees revealed in a tweet on Friday.

“Congrats to Derek & Hannah Jeter on the birth of their daughter, Bella Raine Jeter,” the retired baseball player’s former team wrote. “We can’t wait to meet her!”

The Players’ Tribune, which the 43-year-old athlete founded, also sent a congratulatory tweet on Friday.

“Congratulations Derek and @hannahbjeter on the birth of your baby girl, Bella Raine Jeter, born Thursday, Aug. 17.”

Jeter and 27-year-old model tied the knot in July 2016 before announcing this February that they were expecting their first baby together.

“We want our kids’ lives to be as ‘normal’ as possible,” Hannah told The Players’ Tribune. “They’re going to be born into such an extraordinary situation. They’re going to have to be some strong little people. We don’t want them to be defined by their dad’s name — for them, we want him to just be ‘Dad.'”

According to NY Daily News, the five-time World Series champ, mentioned his desire to start a family as part of his decision to retire from baseball after the 2014 season. Jeter is also part of a group who recently agreed to purchase the Miami Marlins.

Earlier this season, Jeter returned to Yankee Stadium to retire his No. 2 jersey and presented a plaque in Monument Park to the iconic shortstop on Mother’s Day, Newsday reports.

The Yankee player was asked at the time about whether he was ready for the challenges of being a father.

“No. I prided myself in my career to be prepared at all times,” he answered. “Anytime I’m unprepared it makes me uncomfortable. I’m unprepared. From what people have told me, you just do it and see what happens . . . I’m excited, but at the same time I’m nervous.”
