Paddington 2 is Rotten Tomatoes’ best-reviewed movie ever

The marmalade-obsessed bear is breaking records and making history, becoming Rotten Tomatoes’ best-reviewed film since the site launched.

While some might think Paddington 2 didn’t do so well at the box office, opening in seventh place in its first weekend at the US box office with $10.6 million, the bear’s sequel film came through with its strong word-of-mouth potential.

Capturing the hearts of its viewers offscreen, the misadventures of Paddington has set a new record on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming the best-reviewed film ever on the review aggregator website. The film surpassed Toy Story’s 163 fresh and zero negative with 167 fresh reviews and zero negative responses. Knocking Toy Story 2, Paddington 2 now holds the coveted 100 percent fresh score.

Director Paul King to Deadline: “It’s incredibly gratifying. It’s such a strange process making these films which are preposterously labor-intensive…It’s a strange experience and you can’t help but hope for the best for this little character and the film you’ve created. It’s very lovely they [the critics] were warm and enthusiastic.”
