Prince William Knights Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr is officially a knight.

Legendary Beatles drummer was knighted by Prince William on March 20 for his services to music. The Investiture ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace.

The 77-year-old musician told the BBC, how much it means to him that his career, spanning over 50 years, is recognized by the royal family.

“It means a lot actually. It means recognition for the things we’ve done. Musically and in life and I was really pleased to accept this.”

News of Starr’s knighted was first announced at the end of last year. But this isn’t the first honor the musician received from the queen. In 1965 he and fellow Beatles Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison received the honor of Members of the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II. He also isn’t the first Beatles member to be knighted with McCartney receiving the honor over twenty years ago.

Congratulations, Sir Ringo Starr!
