“A Quiet Place” Makes Silence Sound Deeply Terrifying

John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds in "A Quiet Place"

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski star as the parents of a family of four who are living in a post-apocalyptic America which is overrun by horrifying predators. The twist is, that these giant lizard creatures are blind and hunt by sound – if you don’t make a noise, you might survive.

The family is forced to take exceptional precautions to ensure they live their lives in silence. These precautions range from laying down a path of sand to silence their footsteps to marking safe floorboards to step on in the house. If this doesn’t sound challenging enough, things are made even more complicated by the fact that Blunt’s character is heavily pregnant.

The movie will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, just waiting for someone to slip up and make a noise. It will also have you seriously pondering how you would respond to their situation and whether you would be able to survive in silence.

Krasinski’s direction is flawless, building and retaining suspense to a bewildering effect. A Quiet Place is undoubtedly the best horror movie 2018 has brought us so far and will definitely make you want to scream, for more reasons than one.
