Renee Zellweger to Play Judy Garland in New Biopic

The 48-year-old actress will portray Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic Judy and there’s no doubt Renee Zellweger has plenty of grace to play the role of a Hollywood icon.

Variety reports that Zellweger will helm the biographical movie, which will center on Wizard of Oz star final concerts in London. Even though at 47 Garland was “exhausted, fragile, and wanting to be at home with her kids” she put on these shows that took place at the “Talk of the Town” nightclub in 1969, the same year the star died.

The film’s script was written by Tom Edge (The Crown) and will be directed by Tony nominee Rupert Goold. If, as assumed, Zellweger will be singing for her role as Garland, Judy will be the first time the actress will do that since her 2002 portrayal of Roxy Hart in the big-screen rendering of the musical Chicago.

Production of Judy will begin February 2018 in London.
