Robert De Niro Wears Giant Platform Shoes on Set

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were spotted filming scenes from their upcoming movie, The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese in the Bronx, New York.

De Niro plays the role of Frank Sheeran,  a mob hitman who is suspected to be associated with the Bufalino crime family and alleged killer of Jimmy Hoffa, a labor union chief who went missing in the 1970s. It is said that Sheeran carried out 25 murders throughout his life as a hitman, according to Metro.

De Niro was seen wearing shoes with thick platform to help combat his shortness. He is 5.8 feet inches in real life, only an inch taller than Pacino, who portrays Hoffa in the film.

Sheeran, nicknamed “The Irishman,” and Hoffa had a big height difference so De Niro had to wear a special pair of shoes to tower over Pacino.

De Niro and Pacino have both starred in The Godfather: Part II in 1970s, Heat in 1995 and Righteous Kill in 2008.

The upcoming film, which is due for release in 2018, marks a reunion between De Niro, Scorsese, and Joe Pesci. The crime drama also stars Anna Paquin and Bobby Cannavale. The project is based on the book, I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brand, released in 2004.
