“Rocketman” to Officially Premiere at Cannes

The Elton John biopic will be making its global debut at the Cannes film festival.

Multiple outlets confirm that Rocketman’s world premiere has been set for May 16. 

“We are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said producers Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.

The film stars Taron Egerton as the musical icon. It is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who took the reins on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after director Bryan Singer was fired.

The film is about the fantastical human story of John’s breakthrough years. It follows John’s early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music up to his eventual musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. The film is titled after John’s 1972 song “Rocket Man”.It also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

A domestic release has been slated for May 31.
