“The Romanoffs”: Amazon Sets Premiere Date and Drops First Teaser

Mad Men fans rejoice as creator Matthew Weiner’s return to TV is happening soon. 

The highly anticipated follow-up anthology drama was written, directed and executive produced by Weiner. 

The Romanoffs is “set around the globe, featuring eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family,” that ruled Russia from 1613 until 1917. and it is set to debut on October 12 on Amazon Prime Video. 

The studios also dropped a cryptic trailer that doesn’t actually reveal any footage from the series shot on location in three continents and seven countries but does reveal names of stars who will make an appearance including Mad Men alums Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, as well as Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, Paul Reiser, Isabelle Huppert, Corey Stoll, Andrew Rannells, Jack Huston and Amanda Peet. Guest stars include Noah Wyle (Falling Skies), Kathryn Hahn (Transparent), Ben Miles (Collateral), Griffin Dunne (Imposters), Ron Livingston (The Conjuring), among others. 

The Romanoffs has been in the works since Mad Men ended. It has a budget of $50 million for eight episodes.
