“Rugrats” Live-Action Movie Finds its Director

Paramount Player’s live-action adaptation of Rugrats has tapped David Bowers to direct. 

Bowers has directed three of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, so it’s fair to assume he knows his crowd. His other credits as director of animated movies include Astro Boy and Flushed Away

Rugrats was originally a popular television show that ran from 1991 and into the 2000s. It centered on a group of toddlers, led by a one-year-old named Tommy Pickles, who, and their adventures. The show was then made into a trio of animated movies released between 1998 and 2003.

The script for the movie will be penned by David A. Goodman. Producers are Brian Robbins, series creator Gabor Csupo and Karen Rosenfelt. 

The studio has set a January 29, 2021, release date.
