Ryan Reynolds Joins Video-Game Inspired Comedy “Free Guy”

One would think Ryan Reynolds could never get bored of wearing red-and-black spandex, but the Deadpool actor is getting ready to take off his costume and tackle a new exciting character as he just landed the lead role in the upcoming action comedy called Free Guy.

This promising projects tells the story of a bank teller who discovers he’s actually a background character in a video game. With the help of an avatar, he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world.

20th Century Fox picked up this project in 2016 as a spec script, written by relative newcomer Matt Lieberman. His filmography includes several promising movies that are yet to hit the theaters, including animated revivals of The Addams Family and Scooby-Doo.

The screenwriter behind Free Guy may be a new-bee, but this action comedy is still in safe hands. The Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy will be in charge of bringing this story to life and serve as producer alongside Reynolds. His most recent directing credits include several episodes of Netflix hit series Stranger Things, which he’s also producing.
