Ryan Reynolds to Star in Pokémon Movie

Ryan Reynolds is going yellow and joining Pokémon’s live-action film.

The new film series was announced last summer by Legendary Entertainment and The Pokémon Company, and will be based on the “gotta catch ‘em all” franchise.

EW has confirmed that the Deadpool star is joining Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton. The story follows Detective Pikachu, to find Smith’s character, Tim Goodman, a young man in search of his missing father. Newton will play a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.

Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing the project, which is due to start shooting mid-January in London.

The movie will be the first live-action film of the franchise, who released several big screen adaptations in animated for in 1999 with Pokémon: The First Movie, followed by Pokémon: The Movie 2000, Pokémon 3: The Movie, Pokémon 4Ever, and Pokémon Heroes.

Other details of the project are being kept under wraps.

Before Reynolds sets off to catch ‘em all, he will return to the screen in Deadpool 2 set to open June 1.
