“Saved by the Bell” Revival in The Works at NBCUniversal

NBCUniversal’s streaming service is reuniting the Bayside gang.

The newly named streaming platform Peacock is working on a new Saved by the Bell series. The series will reunite two original stars who will reprise their roles in the comedy —Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley.

The series hails from Great News creator Tracey Wigfield. Wigfield will also serve as showrunner and will exec produce alongside original series creator Peter Engel and Franco Bario. Lopez and Berkley will also produce.

The revival will see California governor Zack Morris in hot water for closing too many low-income high schools. When he suggests sending the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state — including Bayside High — the influx of new students “gives the overprivileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality,” according to the logline.

NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, will launch on April 2020.
