Variety was the first to break the news that the third season of The White Lotus will be set in Thailand, and the show’s passionate fans weren’t surprised by this turn of events. Masterminds behind this show hinted at a possible Asian setting on several occasions in the past.
The show’s executive producer David Bernad previously told Deadline, “We’ve tried to work in Asia a lot and hopefully season three will be our chance to make something happen there.”
The White Lotus creator Mike White also hinted they would head to Asia, saying that the third season of the show would offer “a satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality.”
Each season of The White Lotus takes place at a different high-end resort, where its guests must grapple with their dysfunctional lives, instead of enjoying the carefree holiday that they signed up for. The first season took place in Maui, Hawaii, while the second was shot in Sicily, Italy.
