It’s only been a month since Prime Video renewed The Boys for Season 5, and they just shared some more news about its future. Eric Kripke took to social media to announce that the upcoming fifth season will serve as a swan song for the hit superhero satire.

Season 4 of The Boys is hitting Prime Video this week, and its creator Eric Kripke celebrated its return by announcing that Season 5 will be the show’s last chapter. He revealed this was always the plan, and described the final season as “a gory, epic, emotional climax.”

Kripke knew he wanted to wrap up the story after five seasons for quite some time, and it all came down to convincing Amazon this was the right time to hit the brakes.

“I give them all the credit in the world and I’m so grateful for them to let me end this story on my terms. That’s obviously really rare. When they saw that I was pretty dead set on Season 5, they went along with it. And I really am grateful,” Kripke told Variety.

Season 4 of The Boys will return to Prime Video on June 13 with a three-episode premiere, while the remaining five episodes will stream weekly until July 18.
