Seth Rogen in "An American Pickle"

The first trailer for An American Pickle starring Seth Rogen has been released by HBO Max.

The film is based on Simon Rich’s short story Sell Out, which was published in The New Yorker in 2013 and is set for an August 6 release date. Brandon Trost, Rogen’s frequent collaborator, worked with Rogen on This Is The End, Neighbors, The Interview, and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising will be directing the film.

An American Pickle follows Rogen’s Hershel Greenbaum, a Polish immigrant who comes to the United States in 1920 to live the American dream. He works in a pickle factory and after falling in the brine, he travels to the future in 2020 where he meets his great-grandson, Ben (also played by Rogen). Although the two are from different generations, they try to relate around family values, culture, and music. Along the way, Ben helps Herschel adapt to the 21st-century culture and Herschel helps Ben cope with his parent’s death.

Rogen also produced the film with Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. Also starring in An American Pickle are Sarah Snook, Sean Whalen, Jorma Taccone, Joanna Adler, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Geoffrey Cantor, David Mattey, Charles Rogers, and Kevin O’Rourke.
