Shawn Mendes takes Taylor Swift’s Advice to Heart

Opening for Taylor Swift on tour comes with its own perks. One of them, as singer Shawn Mendes told VMAN Magazine is getting some awesome advice from the singer.

Mendes opened up in his interview about music and stardom. This comes only two years after he had his first taste of the spotlight opening for Swift on her 1989 World Tour in 2015. The now 19-year-old singer is a force to be reckoned with in pop music with a huge fanbase.

Mendes reveals what was Swift’s best advice to him, just before going on stage: “she told me not to be afraid to go out on stage because everyone in the stadium came to have fun. This is not a judging contest, this is a concert.”

After the release of his second studio album Illuminate last year, he’s currently touring on the World Tour of the same name, scheduled to conclude in December in Tokyo. Mendes’ way of dealing with fame is to simply focus on the now, saying that it all could be gone tomorrow, so best he makes the most of it today. In his interview he added that when people ask what will be in store for him in 5 years, he answers: “I don’t care! It’s what I’m doing today that matters.”
