The L Word set new standards for LGBTQ representation on TV when it premiered 15 years ago, and it seems we haven’t seen the last of it. Showtime is currently working on a sequel to this hit show.
Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, and Leisha Hailey, who got their big break thanks to the original series, are all coming back. They’ll also serve as executive producers, along with the L Word co-creator Ilene Chaiken.
Marja-Lewis Ryan, best known for her work on 6 Balloons, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks, is 100% confident they made the right choice when they hired her.
“Marja has brought her unique and contemporary vision to The L Word and blended it beautifully into the fabric of Ilene’s groundbreaking series,” said Levine.
This promising eight-episode follow-up series will premiere towards the end of 2019 on Showtime.
