Sophie Turner Explains Why Being Engaged Is Not An Achievement

It’s been six months since Sophie Turner said yes to Joe Jonas, but the 22-year-old actress still can’t believe she’s engaged.

“I’m still like, ‘Holy sh*t! I’m engaged,” Turner said during her interview with Marie Claire for 2018 “Fresh Faces” feature. She said her engagement isn’t exactly what she considers as an achievement.

“There’s this weird misconception that being married is the greatest thing that’ll ever happen to you,” the Game of Thrones star told the magazine. “But I’ve always found that my career is something I work for, and when I achieve something, there’s a sense that this is the greatest thing I’ll do in my life.”

“It’s lovely to be engaged,” she added. “Not like I achieved anything, but I found my person like I’d find a house that I love and want to stay in forever. There’s a sense of peace that comes with finding your person. But there’s a drive that comes with your career.”

She also discussed her support for the “Time’s Up” and #MeToo movements that fight sexual misconduct in Hollywood and other industries.

“I’m so much more comfortable going into work knowing that there’s a group of people who will believe me if something does happen,” she shared.

Jonas proposed to Turner in October 2017. He posted a photo on Instagram showing his fiancée’s pear-shaped diamond ring, which he captioned “She said yes”. The actress also shared the same picture and wrote, “I said yes.”

The lovebirds have been together since 2016 and Hailee Steinfeld was one of those who encouraged the romance from early on.

“I mean, I will say, I did get that text from Sophie being like, ‘So tell me about Joe,’ and I was like, ‘Go for it,'” Steinfeld told Nova 96.9’s Smallzy in January.
