The newest film in the adventure franchise will not be directed by Steven Spielberg.

Sources close to the acclaimed director have confirmed that for the first time in the Indiana Jones’ almost four-decade-long history, he won’t take his place in the director’s chair.

According to a source, “The decision to hand over directing duties was entirely Steven’s,” adding that, “he felt now was the perfect time to let a new director and a new generation give their perspective to the overall story and this film.”

In talks to helm the fifth installment of the adventure franchise is James Mangold, whose directorial titles include Ford v Ferrari, Wolverine, and Logan

Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2021.
