“Stranger Things'” Matthew Modine Joins Uzo Aduba in “Miss Virginia”

Variety confirms that the Stranger Things actor has been cast in the drama Miss Virginia.

Modine who plays Dr. Martin Brenner on the Netflix hit will portray Congressman Cliff Williams on the indie project. Also starring in the film is Uzo Arub, best known for the role as Suzanne Crazy Eyes Warren in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.

The film was inspired by a true story. Miss Virginia chronicles the life of a struggling inner-city single mother who moves her at-risk son from his dangerous neighborhood school to an expensive one in a safe area. It follows her efforts to make the tuition payments and her crusade to improve her son’s future in the community.

The film will be directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna with the script penned by Erin O’Connor who will also serve as producer alongside Rob Pfaltzgraff, and Maurice Black of Moving Picture Institute, and Stacey Parks of Media Sparks Films.

“The real Miss Virginia is as formidable as she is warm and down-to-earth,” O’Connor said. “No one captures that spirit like Uzo. Her bravery, grit, and humor shine through in all her performances. We’re ecstatic that she will be bringing her infectious energy to Miss Virginia.”

The movie is set to commence production this month in Los Angeles.
