“Sweetbitter” Cancelled at Starz

Ella Purnell in "Sweetbitter"

Sweetbitter is officially just bitter.

Multiple outlets confirm that the restaurant drama has been canceled by Starz after two seasons.

It’s fair to assume that the series isn’t returning for season 3 due to low ratings. Per The Hollywood Reporter, season one averaged 164,000 live-same-day viewers, with that number slipping to 93,000 in season two. In addition to that, it had mixed reviews among critics, with an 88 percent score among viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sweetbitter was based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Danler. It followed a 22-year-old woman (Ella Purnell) who after arriving in New York, landed a job at a posh downtown restaurant.
