“Sweetbitter” Renewed for Season 2 at Starz

The half-hour comedy has been renewed for a second season.

Sweetbitter, a drama based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Danler, has gotten the go-ahead for another season. Season two will consist of 10 episodes, four more than its freshman run.

“Season one gave audiences a taste of the characters and backstory of an upscale New York restaurant, leaving them wanting more — which we will deliver with the second helping of Sweetbitter,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said. “The immersion of the audience into the world in and around the restaurant will deepen as the series looks further into the complexities of Tess’ awakening and the lives of her new friends and colleagues in the second season.”

The series follows a 22-year-old woman (Ella Purnell) who, shortly after arriving in New York, lands a job at a celebrated downtown restaurant.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series averaged 164,000 live-same-day viewers and scored a 35 percent rating among critics and 88 percent score among viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season one also starred Tom Sturridge, Caitlin FitzGerald, Evan Jonigkeit, Eden Epstein, Jasmine Mathews, Daniyar, and Paul Sparks.

A return date has yet to be confirmed.
