Nobody Wants This stars Bell and Body as a temperamental podcaster and a rookie rabbi, as they try to form a lasting relationship despite their different outlooks on life. In addition to the leading duo, the cast of this hit series also includes Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitcock, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Emily Arlook, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Berman.
This series is loosely based on the life of its creator Erin Foster, who described it as her career highlight. She served as its co-showrunner in Season 1 alongside Craig DiGregorio, but they’ll step down in Season 2, letting Girls alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan take their spot.
“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls… Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!” Foster said in a statement.
Nobody Wants This premiered on Netflix on September 26, and it managed to top the streamer’s list of the top 10 most-watched English-language TV shows.
The previously announced lead of Promising Young Woman will star opposite Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Connie Britton and Adam Brody in the forthcoming thriller.
Also starring are Jennifer Coolidge, Laverne Cox, Max Greenfield, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Sam Richardson, and Molly Shannon.
The feature marks Emerald Fennell directorial debut. She is best known for her acting roles on Call the Midwife and The Crown.
Mulligan stars as Cassie, “who everyone said was a promising young woman until a tragic event abruptly derailed her future. Now she’s a medical school drop-out, living at home with her worried parents and working at a coffee shop. It seems like she is at a standstill, except for the double life Cassie leads at night.”
Fennell is directing from her own script. She is also producing the project with FilmNation’s Ben Browning and Margot Robbie who is set to produce via her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.
Production began this week in Los Angeles.
