2021 American Music Awards: BTS Crowned As the Big Winner

BTS has been on fire since the beginning of 2021, and it was just a matter of time before major awards started coming their way. The K-pop boy band was crowned as the biggest winner of the night at the American Music Awards and won accolades in three major categories.

BTS was competing against Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd for the biggest award of the night—artist of the year. They managed to come out victorious, and also picked up awards for the best pop duo or group and favorite pop song with “Butter”.

It was also a big night for Doja Cat, who dominated the R&B categories. In addition to winning trophies for favorite female R&B artist and favorite R&B album with Planet Her, she also collected the award for collaboration of the year with “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA.

Megan Thee Stallion was right behind with three awards—favorite female hip-hop artist, favorite hip-hop album with Good News, and favorite trending song with “Body”. Olivia Rodrigo collected the award for the new artist of the year, while Lil Nas X picked up the trophy for the best music video with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

The American Music Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 21st, with Cardi B serving as the host.

2021 American Music Awards: Olivia Rodrigo Tops Nominations

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the biggest rising stars of the year, and she’s finally getting credit from some major award ceremonies. The nominations for the American Music Awards are in, and she’s leading the way with a total of seven nods.

Rodrigo is one of the contenders for the artists of the year award, but she’ll have to face some tough competition. Ariana Grande, BTS, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd are also in the running in this category.

Rodrigo scored three more nominations with her hit song “Drivers License”—favorite music video, favorite trending song, and favorite pop song. She’s also competing for new artist of the year, favorite female pop artist, and favorite pop album (Sour).

The American Music Awards will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 21st, and the list of major contenders includes The Weeknd with six nominations, and Bad Bunny, Doja Cat, and Giveon with five nods.
