]]>Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley aka The Monterey Five are all set to return for the second season of HBO’s acclaimed series. They will be joined by the amazing Meryl Streep. Yes, that’s right, Streep is making her way to the small screen as Mary Louise, the grieving mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård). Mary Louise is there to get some answers about that fatal night.
“I’m playing someone who is dealing with whatever the deficits of her parenting were, whatever the mysteries and how you can’t go back in time and fix something, all those issues,” Streep explained. “That was interesting to me.”
“We left off with a lie, so it would have been disingenuous not to mine that lie for all its malignancy,” writer David E. Kelley told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s going to result in more skewed fractures and fissures in the friendships between the women, some of the marriages, and some of the individual psyches.”
The forthcoming season “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
According to Kidman, Season Two “is its own entity and hopefully, it will be taken that way. It was definitely made with an enormous amount of love.” Kelley added, ”The one thing that [Nicole and I] were really adamant about was being truthful to the recovery of abuse because it’s very complicated.”
Big Little Lies Season Two premieres, June 9.

]]>Multiple outlets report the creator of Big Little Lies have given some heavy hints that the series is more than likely end after a two-season run.
During the Television Critics Association press tour Friday, both cast and the creative team told reporters that there are plans for future seasons. Creator and executive producer David E. Kelley said, “There’s no such plan now. “It’s one and two, and we like our closure with season two, but that will probably be it.”
Nicole Kidman, star and executive producer added, “There’s no plan for it to end, specifically. This was a long shoot for us, and it was an enormous amount of work, and we’re just amazed that we can be here. Not to compare it to the first one because artistically it’s a wonderful thing to take something and go and the success of the first one was so massive, so we go, ‘OK, let’s jump off the cliff.’ But at the same time, it is its own entity and

Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon both took to social media to celebrate the end of season 2 shoot, with Witherspoon sharing never-before-seen behind-the-scenes pics. Witherspoon poses tons of pics from the set of the show alongside co-stars Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, and Kidman.
The 42-year-old actress captioned the pics with, “Feeling so grateful to my #BigLittleLies family on our last day of shooting Season 2! You have all inspired me, supported me, made me laugh & cry. Making the second season even more exciting than the last (I can’t wait for y’all to see it!!). Thank you @HBO and our amazing Director Andrea Arnold! Big love to my sisters @nicolekidman @lauradern @shailenewoodley @zoeisabellakravitz and #MerylStreep. .”
Kidman posted a b&w pic of herself clad in a shirt with the names of the female characters of the series.
“That’s a wrap on #BigLittleLies Season 2 filming! What a beautiful journey this has been with my Monterey 5 sisters and our passionate dedicated crew,” Kidman captioned the photo. “Thank you HBO for the amazing opportunity and thank you Andrea Arnold for being our fearless leader, and of course the one and only Meryl Streep for believing in us. I love you all. xx.”

]]>The series will be adapted for the small screen from Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 best-selling book You Should Have Known. The novel tells the story of a successful therapist, Grace Sachs (Kidman) who’s about to publish her first book when disaster strikes and her perfect life is turned upside down.
“We’re thrilled to continue our creative relationships with both Nicole and David,” said Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming “and can’t wait to bring this show to life.”
“David has created another propulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its center,” said Kidman. “I’m excited and honored to continue collaborating with HBO and David E Kelley.”
“I loved this book,” added Kelley in a statement. “A character-driven psychological thriller, I’m excited about the adaptation and thrilled to be able to do it with Nicole and HBO.”
Kidman will return to the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies executive produced by Kelley. Her co-star, Reese Witherspoon has also landed an eight-episode straight-to-series order at Hulu with Kerry Washington.

]]>Star of the series Adam Scott will return to season two of Big Little Lies. Scott will, of course, be joined by the series’ five leading ladies, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.
The network announced Tuesday that Scott will reprise his role as Ed Mackenzie, Madeline’s (Witherspoon) husband. In season 2, Scott’s character is “forced to confront major challenges in his marriage,” stemming from Madeline’s infidelity.
In addition to the ladies of Monterey’s return for the next installment, Hollywood icon Meryl Streep was cast as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård).
HBO says the new season “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for an emotional and bodily injury shall loom.” Penning all seven episodes of the second season is David E. Kelley.

]]>HBO’s acclaimed series is getting some more star power as Streep will be making a rare TV appearance. Her previous major TV role was well over a decade ago, on Angels in America (2003).
The Oscar-winner will join season two as Mary Louise Wright, mother of abusive Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) who played Nicole Kidman’s onscreen husband. Following her son’s death, Mary arrives as Monterey, concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren.
Season 2 will see Celeste Wright (Kidman) “reeling from her husband Perry’s death, [she] is adrift, but determined to fight for her family and find the woman she once was.” While Reese Witherspoon’s Madeline Martha Mackenzie is “finding that good intentions don’t always yield good consequences, Madeline confronts the truth of Perry’s death, while coming to terms with her own marriage and traditional notions of family.”
With David E. Kelly serving as showrunner, the project was originally billed as a limited series, but its major success prompted HBO to make go for another round, making new deals with the show’s producers and cast.
Big Little Lies season 2 is expected to air in 2019.

“.. I want them to know that sometimes when you’re acting, you get a chance to bring a bigger message, and this is their contribution and your contribution,” she said. “We shone a light on domestic abuse. It is a complicated, insidious disease. It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know.

]]>Even though it was initially planned as a mini-series, HBO’s critically acclaimed Big Little Lies will return for a second season. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will both return to star and to executive produce the series. Returning as executive producer is David E. Kelley who also penned the scripts for the new season. The second season will consist of seven episodes.
Witherspoon said in a statement that she is “thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists. It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them. I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”
“This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world, conceived once again by Liane Moriarty, realized by David Kelley and now in the hands of visionary filmmaker Andrea Arnold,” Kidman said in a statement. “What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.”
Big Little Lies won 8 Emmy Awards in 2017 including Outstanding Limited Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Kidman.
Witherspoon celebrated the series’ return, announcing it with video from the series on Instagram.

]]>Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and HBO’s Big Little Lies are tied for most wins with five awards each, followed by Saturday Night Live with four including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Veep took home the Outstanding Comedy Series award for third consecutive year, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus made Emmy history for winning the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for sixth straight year in a row.
Donald Glover, the creator of FX series Atlanta, also made history as the first black director to win the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and later in the night, he won his second Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Nicole Kidman, who earned her first Emmy, delivered a strong message about domestic abuse during her acceptance speech for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
“.. I want them to know that sometimes when you’re acting, you get a chance to bring a bigger message, and this is their contribution and your contribution,” she said. “We shone a light on domestic abuse. It is a complicated, insidious disease. It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know. It is filled with shame and secrecy and by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more. So thank you, thank you, thank you. I bow down to you.”

]]>The Emmy-nominated HBO show is up in the air, at least for now, according to Kidman. The actress told E! that that cast is still deciding rather there will be another season of the series. “No, it’s still not decided because it is a lot to pull together,” she shared.
As she explained, “the first one was a lot to put together, so we are sort of not taking it lightly in terms of what it needs.”
However, she’s completely aware of the popularity the show has with the viewers.: “We’re just so happy that the show has been received in the way it’s received.”
