]]>All Of Us Strangers received 14 nods at this year’s ceremony, behind romantic comedy film Rye Lane with 16 and Scrapper with 14 nominations. That didn’t stop this film from dominating most of the major categories, starting with the best British independent film.
All Of Us Strangers defeated the likes of Femme, How to Have S-x, Rye Lane, and Scrapper to win the ceremony’s main award. This film also won prizes for best cinematography, editing, and music supervision, while Andrew Haigh was named the best director and screenwriter.
When it comes to acting awards, Mia McKenna-Bruce impressed the voters with her performance in How to Have S-x. She faced tough competition from Jodie Comer, Andrew Scott, and Tilda Swinton and defeated them all to win the trophy for best lead performance. Her co-star Shaun Thomas collected the award for best supporting performance, tying with Paul Mescal for All of Us Strangers.

]]>The critically acclaimed drama about a father-daughter duo going on a summer vacation in Turkey managed to beat the likes of Blue Jean, The Wonder, Living, and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, to win the night’s biggest award. Its writer-director Charlotte Wells also picked up the trophies for the best director, best debut director, and best screenplay.
Aftersun also came out vicious in several technical categories, such as best cinematography, editing, and music supervision. Surprisingly enough, it lost in all the acting categories it was nominated for, including the best joint lead performance by Frankie Corio and Paul Mescal.
The Blue Jean actresses Rosy McEwen and Kerrie Hayes won awards for the best lead and supporting performance, respectively. Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance picked up the trophy for best joint lead performance in The Silent Twins.
The 2022 British Independent Film Award took place on December 4 at Old Billingsgate in London, with Ben Bailey Smith serving as a host.

Variety introduced it as a way of recognizing actors, directors, writers, and producers who have made a global impact and pointed the international spotlight on the UK.
BIFA spokesperson described Jones as a remarkable actress and said they’re delighted to celebrate her spectacular international achievements on home turf. Oscar-nominated star, who became a household name after leading the way in Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, said she feels the same way about this incredible recognition.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive this award and, in doing so, to join such an illustrious and inspiring group of filmmakers and actors. To support the British film industry on the global stage is a huge privilege and something I feel very proud and lucky to be a part of,” stated Jones.
