Ryan Murphy is throwing it back to 1984 and paying homage to all those ’80s horror movies including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Children of the Corn and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

The creator of the acclaimed horror franchise revealed the name of the next installment of AHS on Wednesday. Muphy’s Instagram post featured a short video of a teenage girl fleeing a big man with an even bigger knife chasing her in true ‘80s slasher films fashion. 

Confirmed to return for Season 9 is Emma Roberts. She’ll star opposite Olympian Gus Kenworthy, as his on-screen on the run from slasher guy couple. Evan Peters recently announced that he won’t be back for season 9. Sarah Paulson has yet to give details about her involvement, but we think it’s safe to assume she’s on board.

The double Grammy and double Tony winner, Patti LuPone will guest star in Season 2 of the FX’s series.

The news was announced by co-creator Ryan Murphy Saturday during the Pose panel at PaleyFest. Murphy also revealed that Season 2 will see the show jump forward to 1990, to the day Madonna’s “Vogue” was released and that series lead MJ Rodriguez will share many scenes with LuPone.

“We’ve come up with this great role for Patti LuPone. She loves the show and we wrote this part and she said, ‘Yes, I want to do it,’ so she’s coming to play with us in a couple weeks,” Murphy said.

Ahead of the panel, co-creator Steven Canals said, “We now get sort of reacquainted with these characters because the year-and-a-half has now passed. It’s fun to explore what has happened in the past two years, and how are they the person that they are presenting now? We were able to research what was happening in 1990 and lean into how New York had changed.”

Season 2 is set to tackle the same issues as did Season 1, including transgender relationships, drag culture and the HIV/AIDS crisis of the late ’80s. The series boasts the largest-ever cast of trans lead actors on television

Pose is set to return later this year.

Fox has renewed drama series “9-1-1” for a second season after airing only two episodes.

The network announced the news Tuesday, with Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden saying in a statement, “With a bold concept, award-winning stars and a flawless execution, Ryan, Brad and Tim have done it again. They have tapped into the cultural zeitgeist and reimagined the procedural as only they could, bringing it to life with a dream team of actors led by Angela, Peter and Connie. This is storytelling at its best and we’re so pleased that it’s resonated with our audience. We’d like to thank everyone involved with this production for their stellar work, and we look forward to another thrilling season of 9-1-1.”

The drama series was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. It stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Connie Britton, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, and Rockmond Dunbar and explored the high-pressure experiences of first responders who are thrown into frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations.

The series premiered January 4 and it ranked the highest-rated debut since The Good Doctor with 6.8 million viewers.
