Call of the Wild takes us back to the gold rush of the 1890s when miners braved the harrowing Alaskan wilderness in hope they’ll strike it rich. Ford will play experienced outdoors-man John Thornton, who develops a close bond with sled dog Buck during their adventures. He won’t be the first Hollywood legend to bring this iconic character to life. Clark Gable and Charlton Heston portrayed the role in the past, but decades passed since.

Harrison Ford’s been pretty busy going back to his roots in the last couple of years. We’ve seen him returning to Star Wars and Blade Runner, but the Oscar nominee is finally ready for new challenges. It’s still unclear in what capacity we’re going to see him in the upcoming project, since Thornton isn’t by Buck’s side from the very start.

Call of the Wild is supposed to be a hybrid of CGI and live-action. It will start filming in the fall, with Chris Sanders serving as director. His credits include Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, but will he be able to bring London’s novel to life? We’ll get the answer on Christmas 2019, when this movie premiers in the US.
