Star Wars: Episode IX will feature Fisher in her iconic role as Leia Organa thanks to previously unreleased footage of the late actress.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” director J.J. Abrams said the announcement. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie [Lourd], we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII,” Abrams explained. 

Fisher died unexpectedly in December 2016. Soon after that the network addressed rumors that Fisher would be brought back through CGI.

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa. Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.”

Star Wars: Episode IX commences filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1and is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.

The women of Hollywood made history this year as the most popular films of 2017 in North America featured female leads.

Topping at number one was the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise Star Wars: The Last Jedi with whopping $533.1 million at the box office. The second largest grossing film was Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and closing the top three was DC Comics’ Wonder Woman with $504 and 412.6 million respectively.

According to box-office, female led films were top three was back in 1958 with South Pacific, Auntie Mame, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

The Last Jedi was dubbed the most feminist of the Star Wars franchise yet, with strong female roles including trainee Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the late Carrie Fisher in her final performance as Princess made General, Leia.

The live-action remake of the 1991 Disney hit starred Emma Watson as Bell. While a Disney princess, she takes charge of her destiny and refuses to conform to social dictates and in essence turning a beast into a love stricken puppy.

Finally, Wonder Woman doubly succeeded as a female-led film. Starring newcomer Gal Gadot who portrayed a role model heroine, Wonder Woman is also the highest-grossing live-action movie ever directed by a woman, Patty Jenkins.

Hopefully powerful portrayals of female characters isn’t a fleeting moment but rather a new Hollywood zeitgeist.

The actress posted a photo of her father, Bryan Lourd, and the green Northern Lights on Instagram Wednesday.

“My momby had an otherworldly obsession with the northern lights, but I never got to see them with her,” Billie wrote. “We journeyed to northern Norway to see if we might ‘see the heavens lift up her dark skirts and flash her dazzling privates across [our] unworthy irises.’ And she did.” She concluded “I love you times infinity.”

The post reached to nearly 50 thousand likes in just an hour, with people expressing their love and support.

Fisher died of cardiac arrest last December at age 60. Her last big screen appearance was in the latest movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which also starred Billie in a small role.

Fisher’s on-screen brother in Star Wars, Mark Hamill, also paid tribute by sharing a collage of photos of his favorite memories with his former co-star including a painting of Fisher available online.

“No one’s ever really gone…,” he tweeted. “#AlwaysWithUs  #CarrieOnForever.”

Director Rian Johnson honored the late actress by making a dedication after the credits in The Last Jedi movie, which reads: “In Loving Memory of Our Princess, Carrie Fisher.”

“I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie, who is up there right now flipping me the bird, saying, ‘Damn it, Rian, don’t you dare make this night a solemn tribute,'” Johnson said at the movie’s premiere earlier this month. “So let’s all have a blast tonight for Carrie.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is predicted to smash the box office. Many celebrity guests arrived at the Shrine Auditorium, to celebrate the latest outing for this hugely successful movie franchise. The film is the second in a new trilogy of Star Wars films, following The Force Awakens in 2015.

Among the celebrity guests in attendance at the European premiere were Prince William and Price Harry. The two arrived at Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday. In November, star of the film, John Bodega who plays stormtrooper-turned-resistance-fighter Finn, confirmed that the two royals both have cameos in the film as stormtroppers.

She explained that she gave the actor a heads up about the chapter. “I wouldn’t have ambushed him like that, but it’s still—no matter if I told him or not, it probably feels like an ambush,” she told Terry Gross of NPR’s Fresh Air. “It feels like an ambush to me, and I’m the one that wrote it.” So, she spoke to him in person about revealing their 40-year-old affair. “I said, ‘I found the journals that I kept during the first movie, and I’m probably going to publish them. And he just sort of raised his finger and said, ‘Lawyer!’ Then I said, ‘No, I won’t write anything that you don’t want. I mean, I’ll show it to you before and you can take anything out that you want taken out. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable’—which I, of course, have. Unduly uncomfortable.”

Ford remained silent during her book promotion, despite several requests for comment from various outlets. The 75-year-old actor released a statement following Fisher’s death in December, reminiscing the moments they shared but did not specify their romantic time together.

In the recent interview with GQ, Ford finally addresses Fisher’s memoir. “It was strange. For me,” he revealed in the outlet’s October’s issue.

When asked if he was given any warning as Fisher claimed, “Um, to a degree. Yes,” Ford said, adding that he doesn’t know what to think about it. “You know, with Carrie’s untimely passing, I don’t really feel that it’s a subject that I want to discuss.”

The actor also refused to discuss whether he wished Fisher has kept their affair private. Ford also said that he did not read the actress’ book.
