The stand up comedian and actor has been tapped to direct the single-camera pilot, which stars Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson. Rock and Thompson will also executive produce the show written by Jackie Clarke. 

According to Deadline, Saving Kenan follows a newly widowed dad (Thompson) determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law become more involved in their lives.

Should the pilot is picked up to series, Rock will continue as an executive producer, and Thompson will most likely leave SNL as a full-time cast member.

Penned by Black-ish writer Yamara Taylor, Co-Parenting will tell the story of a stay at home dad who is doing his best to raise the kids while his wife, who is a powerful CEO, is providing for the family. Things get complicated when the wife decides she wants a divorce and tries to get custody of the children. The movie is reportedly based on the original idea by Rock and Hart.

This won’t be the first time that Rock and Hart collaborate, having previously worked together on 2010’s Death at a Funeral and 2014’s Top Five. The latter movie was also Rock’s directorial debut, and the 53-year-old comedian ended up receiving two nominations on 20th Critics’ Choice Awards for the feature.

Chris Rock’s recent projects include Netflix’ comedy The Week Of, where he co-starred with Adam Sandler. He also returned to television and will be starring in the fourth season of comedy–crime anthology Fargo.

Kevin Hart wrote and starred in 2018’s comedy Night School alongside Tiffany Haddish. He is currently filming The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Jumanji 3.

After nearly a decade since the funny man was tapped as TV series regular, Rock joins the fourth season of the Noah Hawley anthology. 

The new of the newest addition to FX’s hit limited series were announced Friday at the at the Television Critics Association press tour. Rock shared his excitement saying, “I’m a fan of Fargo and I can’t wait to work with Noah.”

The fourth installment has been officially greenlit and here is the official FX description: “Season four of Fargo is set in 1950, at the end of two American migrations — that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the U.S. at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York and Chicago — and African-Americans who left the South in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities — you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream. In Kansas City, Missouri, two criminal syndicates have struck an uneasy peace. One Italian, one African-American. Together they control an alternate economy — that of exploitation, graft, and drugs. This too is the history of America. To cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.”

Hawley will return as showrunner writer and director, while Joel & Ethan Coen, Warren Littlefield, and John Cameron have also served as executive producers. Production on the upcoming installment will begin in 2019, however, no return date has been determined.
