The network has decided not to continue with a second season of the half-hour comedy series. The decision to pull the plug is most likely due to the series’ low viewership numbers, drawing a small audience of 2 million viewers on all platforms.

The star of the show, Saturday Night Live’s alum Jay Pharaoh, played an African-American comedian named Floyd Mooney struggling to maintain his core audience while also striving to crossover and becoming “white famous.” This series premiered to mixed reviews but as the episodes continued to air, they mostly received negative reviews.

Created by Roland Buddy and Chris Spencer, produced by Lionsgate TV with Jamie Fox among its executive producers – who even made several appearances on the show as did other well-known comedians –White Famous had an 8 episode run.

The streaming network announcement confirms a new straight-to-series comedy starring Natasha Lyonne, best known for her role as Nicky on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, which earned her an Emmy nomination in 2014.

Starring alongside Lyonne is Leslye Headland as the main star. Headland wrote the first episode, and will co-write the rest of the series with Lyonne. The writer-director for films such as Bachelorette said in a statement, “these women are heroes of mine and to work with them at a company that promotes originality and creativity is a thrill.”

The comedy follows a young woman named Nadia (Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.

“So excited to get cracking with the intensely brilliant Leslye Headland, the GOAT with a heart of gold Amy Poehler, and Netflix, the safe haven I’ve been searching for since the ’80s,” Lyonne said in a statement. “Deeply moved to work with such heavy hitters and to share our show with the world.”

The show will reunite 55-year-old Carrey with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director and Oscar winner Michel Gondry, as the half-hour episodes will explore the tumultuous family life of a children’s TV host.

Carrey is already working with Showtime. He is currently the executive producer for the recently renewed series I’m Dying Up Here, which is set in the ’70s Los Angeles comedy scene and explores on the pressures comedians face to put on a good performance – struggles that a comic like Carrey know all too well.

The premiere date has yet to be annoyed, however, it has been reported that a ten episode order by the network has been made.

This comes after her announcement on May of her upcoming Netflix stand-up special on her daytime TV show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 

“Earlier this week, I got a tweet from the people at Netflix and I have good news and bad news,” DeGeneres wrote, “The bad news is they wouldn’t tell me what happened to Barb on Stranger Things, but the good news is they asked if I was interested in doing a stand-up special. I said I’m going to have to think about it and then 30 seconds later I said yes. Exciting!”

The 59-year-old comedian played a show at the Largo at the Coronet in L.A. on Tuesday. The show was filmed for the anticipated show. The venue shared some special moments of the filming on social media, posting photos on Instagram pictures of Ellen rocking it alongside the caption:

“@TheEllenShow in the house Holy Moley!” the Largo captioned a black-and-white Instagram pic of DeGeneres taking the mic. “#EllenDegeneres brought the funny tonite…very good news that she is back onstage. Stay tuned for more from her.”

Seems like Ellen had a blast tweeting in return, “Thanks for having me. It was a fun night.”

From a young age, the young Lewis was encouraged by his pianist mother and vaudeville entertainer father to live life onstage. 5-year-old Lewis started his prosperous career with a solo-act of lip-syncing to records that has audiences laughing nonstop.

In 1946 he teamed up with Dean Martin in Atlantic City. Their joint performances were truly magical. It seems that it were the two’s very different personalities, Martin was smooth with female audiences while Lewis would do absolutely everything for a laugh, which made their act one of the biggest acts in the country.

After splitting up from Martin in 1956, Lewis found his voice as a performer. Showcasing his physical comedy, he starred in the 1960’s The Bellboy and 1963’s The Nutty Professor, later remade into Eddie Murphy’s hit 1996 film.

Perhaps not very well-known, Lewis was quite the innovator, inventing new film equipment, and even patenting the “video assist system” which enables a director to watch performances on a small monitor as they are filmed. This is just one example of his ingenuity that to this day is a staple in the industry. Lewis was also a teacher and an author. In 1971 he published a book, Total Film-maker as an annex to the courses he taught at USC film school, the same school attended by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

Some would say Lewis’ best performance was in Martin Scorsese’s 1982 King of Comedy. Lewis played Jerry Langford, a late-night talk show host, who is kidnapped by an obsessive fan (Robert DeNiro).

After never receiving an Oscar nomination, Lewis was finally nominated and awarded the Academy’s Jean Hershel Humanitarian Award. In his interview with EW, to the question of what will he say if he were to receive the award, he replied, “I’m going to make it brief. I’m going to go up there, grab that award, and say, It’s about f—ing time! And walk off.” That what definitely the comedian talking, however, at the end, he walked out on stage and humbly accepted the honor.

Jenji Kohan, the executive producer of GLOW, is also the name behind the hit series Orange is the New Black.

GLOW is inspired by a show from the ’80s. It’s set in 1985 L.A. and follows Ruth Wilder, who’s a struggling actress who eventually gets to be on the TV’s first women’s wrestling show.

GLOW is one of four Netflix comedies to debut this year and get another season. The other three are One Day at a Time, Santa Clarita Diet, and Dear White People.

According to ET, the highly anticipated series tells the story of a young wannabe rapper named Courtney Rose (Brandon Michael Hall) who decides to run for Mayor in his hometown as a public strategy to create interest in his new mix-tape. But when he actually gets elected, he calls on his mother, Dina (Yvette Nicole Brown), and his friend Valentina (Michele) to help him become the kind of person who can help his community.

Michele opened up to ET about her new TV project at ABC’s TCA party in Los Angeles.

“It’s such an incredible show with such amazing heart,” she said. “The humorous fantastic corporation of music its really inspirational story and I’m really hoping that everyone is going to love it.”

The former Scream Queens star also revealed why she was attracted to playing the role of Valentina, who she described as “incredibly politically savvy.”

“I really love strong female characters and she has a strength to her that is palpable so I was very excited,” she said.

The Mayor premieres on Oct. 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
