]]>Ever since Community premiered on NBC in 2009, “six seasons and a movie” became one of the show’s most popular running jokes. After NBC’s cancelation, Yahoo! Screen brought back the show for Season 6, and Peacock is now giving us a long-awaited movie about a group of unlikely friends attending the fictional Greendale community college.
Dan Harmon and Andrew Harmon are coming on board as the film’s writers and executive producers, while the project is being developed by Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television.
“Community was light years ahead of its time when it premiered on NBC in 2009 and we are thrilled to once again visit the brilliant minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, and this impeccable cast,” said Sony Pictures Television Studios’ co-president Jason Clodfelter.
As for the movie’s cast, Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong confirmed their comeback. Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown, who left the show before its final season, most likely won’t be involved.

]]>The cast recently united for a table read of Season 5’s episode “Cooperative Polygraphy” and a Q&A to reminisce about the show. During the reunion, creator Dan Harmon hinted at the second half of the show’s “Six Seasons and a Movie.”
Donald Glover said, “we can’t make movies right now” but that he’s up to do one in the future with his co-stars, who also expressed a desire to work on a movie.
In previous interviews, star Joel McHale suggested that Glover might be too busy to join because of his TV career with Atlanta and his music career as Childish Gambino.
Creator Dan Harmon spoke about how he has much more appreciation for the show now that time has passed since the last episode which aired in 2015. “When I watch the episodes now, I have these waves come over me of like, first of all, my writers were amazing and probably didn’t get rewarded for it as much as maybe I thought the job was, but second… the whole cast is just like a machine on a basketball court that automatically slam dunks everything that you put onto the court.”
The cast also talked about moments like when Jack Black guest-starred and when they first heard Donald Glover’s mix tape as well as what their characters would be up to during the pandemic.
